| Materials Needed: About 1 oz each of Nylon yarn (worsted weight) and Cotton yarn (worsted weight). Size H crochet hook, yarn needle for weaving in ends. Special Stitch: Long Half Double Crochet (LHDC): Yarn over, insert hook in space indicated (which will be one row below the row you are working on) draw up a loop, draw through all 3 loops on hook. LHDC made. Make two pieces, the first in nylon yarn and the second in cotton yarn. CH 22 Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across. (21 sc) Row 2: ch 1, turn, sc in the same stitch. *ch 1, skip next stitch, sc in next stitch* Repeat * across. (11 sc, 10 ch 1 spaces) Row 3: ch 1, turn, sc in same stitch. * LHDC in skipped stitch of previous row, sc in next stitch* Repeat * across. (21 stitches) Row 4: ch 1, turn, sc in same stitch and each stitch across. (21 sc) Repeat rows 2-4 eight times, then repeat rows 2 and 3 once more. Finish off first piece (nylon yarn). After completing second piece, DO NOT FINISH OFF. Joining: Place two pieces together. Join in corner with a sl st. ch 1, 2 sc in same stitch. Sc evenly around piece starting along the long side. Do 3 sc in each corner. After completing the 3rd side do only 2 sc in last corner, leaving the last side unsewn (this way you can insert your hand to ease scrubbing). If desired, make a loop for hanging in the corner by chaining 12 and then slip stitching in each chain. Sl St completed loop to last sc. Finish off and weave in ends. Copyright Laurie Clark 2001 |
