Black Clutch Purse
Materials Needed:  About 3 oz of black worsted weight cotton.  1 small ball of size 5 gold cotton thread.  Size I crochet hook.  Yarn needle.  Decorative button.

Entire purse is worked holding both the cotton yarn and the cotton thread together.

CH 40

Row 1:  Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across. (39 sc)

Row 2:  Ch 1, turn.  Sc in same st.  *TC in next st, sc in next st*  Repeat * across.

Rows 3-4-5:  Ch 1, turn, sc in same st and each st across.

Rows 6-27:  Repeat rows 2 thru 5, five times, then repeat rows 2 and 3 once more.

Row 28:  Ch 1, turn piece clockwise, sc evenly around entire piece working 2 sc in each corner.  Join with a sl st in first sc.  Do NOT finish off.

Working the flap part of the purse:

Row 1:  Working along the short side of purse, ch 1, sc in same st and each st across.  (27 sc)

Row 2:  Ch 1, turn, sc in same st and each across.  (27 sc)

Row 3:  Ch 1, turn.  sc dec over first 2 st.  sc in each st across to last 2 st.  sc dec over last two st.  (25 sc)

Repeat row 3, ten times.  In each row you will decrease by 2 st until you have 5 stitches left.

Row 14:  Ch 1, turn.  Sc in same st.  CH 3, sk next 3 st.  SC in last st.

Row 15:  Ch 1, turn.  Sl st in same st, sl st in next 3 ch and last sc.  Finish off and weave in ends.

Assembling:  Fold purse in half.  Place closing flap down to determine placement for button.  Sew button on.  Then with right sides facing (piece is inside out), whip st together the sides one at  a time working in the FLO of the sides.  Turn piece to the right side!
